Republicans Are Already Pointing Fingers Over a Midterm Collapse
And 50% of Democrats said if the party retakes the House it's because of Trump

Democratic Party voters think that their party’s midterm success will ride on President Donald Trump’s chaotic presidency, rather than their party’s own campaigns, per a new poll.
A survey from The POLITICO Poll asked voters about why they think Democrats might win the House, if they do win it. Among Democrats, 50% said that Democrats would retake the House because of President Donald Trump’s actions in office, rather than a strong Democratic campaign. For comparison, just 35% of respondents said they would retake power due to a strong Democratic campaign.
Republicans in the survey were split into two groups, MAGA voters and non-MAGA voters. Among MAGA voters, the sentiment was split roughly into thirds: 31% said Democrats' success would be because of Trump’s actions, 24% said it would be because Democrats ran a strong campaign, and 29% said it would be because Republicans ran a weak campaign.
Among MAGA voters, however, the plurality said that 41% of Democrats' success would be because Republicans ran a weak campaign, whereas 22% said Democrats would succeed because of Trump’s actions and just 16% said it would be because Democrats ran a strong campaign.
While the poll foreshadows post-midterm fighting within the GOP, it also potentially signals issues within the Democratic Party, with most voters apparently believing that their party is only set to win because of Trump’s unpopularity.
