$61 Million Later, MI-07 is Becoming One Of the Most Expensive House Races Ever
Democrat William Lawrence is trying to flip a GOP-held seat

In the final weeks of the election, Michigan’s 7th Congressional District is emerging as one of the most expensive House races in American history, with President Trump’s committees dedicating millions in the swing race.
Democrat William Lawrence is challenging Rep. Tom Barrett, a GOP House freshman, in a district that is among the most competitive in the country. The race has quickly spiraled into becoming one of the most expensive as well.
According to AdImpact, an advertising tracking firm, around $26 million has been spent on ads that have already aired in the race, with more than $15 million from Republicans and $10 million from Democratic groups.
Going by spending, the race is also a top priority of an array of committees affiliated with President Donald Trump. Combined, the No Going Back PAC and the Safety and Affordability PAC, which have served as conduits for the president’s political war chest, have dedicated some $3 million to the race.
The ad spending alone is enough to place the race in Michigan’s 7th among the most expensive House races of all time, with total spending exceeding $61 million.
